POTENTRx™ was established by two nationally recognized professionals, cardiologist Sarah M. Speck, M.D., and sport and exercise scientist, Dan G. Tripps, Ph.D. Drs. Speck and Tripps have assembled an extraordinary team of health, exercise, and performance specialists supported by an equally proficient administrative team. Dr. Speck is a cardiologist and medical director of the Swedish Heart & Vascular Institute Cardiac Wellness program. With her help, the Institute has become a national leader in the early detection and prevention of heart disease, and in disease-reversal and disease-management techniques. Dr. Speck serves as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Washington’s School of Medicine. Dr. Speck earned a BS degree in Biology from the University of Illinois, her medical degree and a MS in Public Health from University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at U.W. affiliated hospitals and her fellowship through the U.W. Division of Cardiology.
Dr. Tripps directs the Center for the Study of Sport & Exercise at Seattle University and the Center’s human performance lab. His research and clinical practice focus on physical and mental aspects of high performance. Dr. Tripps has coached world-class swimmers and triathletes, was President and Executive Director of the 1984 Olympic Scientific Congress, the sport science program held in conjunction with the Los Angeles Olympic Games, and has published 12 books on achievement and human performance. Dr. Tripps pursued his undergraduate education at U.S.C. and San Francisco State University, earning a BA in English. He earned his MA in Teaching from Stanford University and his doctoral degree from the University of Oregon.
Sean has a history of fitness and athletics from presidential physical fitness awards to state recognition in high school and Division III track and football at Linfield College. After receiving his B.S. in exercise science and a minor in biology from Linfield, Sean obtained a Master’s Degree in Sport Administration & Leadership from Seattle University. He is an ACSM Certified Exercise Specialist.
Allison is a certified spinning instructor and recently taking up running to be a participant in local marathons and duathlons. Allison completed her B.S. degree in Exercise Science from Seattle University. She was an exercise physiology intern with POTENTRx for over a year and is now on staff while studying to receive her personal training and exercise specialist certifications.
Katy is a senior at Seattle Pacific University studying Applied Human Biology and Exercise Science. She became intrigued by Exercise Science because she could apply what she learns in classes and labs to her personal life. Katy has been a member of the SPU varsity crew team for the past four years as well as co-captain of the team for a year. She works as an exercise physiology intern.
Wes has been a soccer player his entire life. He played Division 1 soccer at Seattle University and served as the team captain his senior year. After completing his B.S. in Exercise Science at SU, Wes assumed leadership of the university biomechanics lab and biomechanical services for POTENTRx.
Jace was a high school soccer play who began is intercollegiate athletic career in soccer at Seattle Pacific University but quickly became nationally ranked in the javelin. During his senior year, Jace served as an intern at POTENTRx in biomechanics. After completing his B.S. in Exercise Science at SPU, Jace joined POTENTRx as a strength coach and biomechanist.
Barbara provides counseling services for addressing anxiety or fears, chronic pain or illness using person centered and transpersonal theories that incorporate authentic self questions. Barbara serves as a consultant for Swedish Medical Center and received her M.A. in Nursing and her B.S. in psychology from University of Washington.
Bergen Beck earned her M.S. in Exercise Science with a specialization in Exercise and Sport Psychology from the University of Utah and her B.S. degrees in Exercise Biology and Psychology from the University of California at Davis. As a specialist in mental skills training, she provides consulting to enhance performance by incorporating controllable mental skills with physical readiness.
Bob graduated with his M.S. degree in Athletic Training from the University of Arizona following receipt of his B.A. degree in Philosophy from Western Washington University. Bob served as Head Athletic Trainer for Seattle Pacific University for 28 years. Bob specializes in preventative musculoskeletal analysis and rehabilitative modalities.
Sarah is a Registered Dietitian/Clinical Nutritionist who uses scientific research to help individuals make sustainable nutrition choices for optimal health while safeguarding “taste.” Sarah earned her B.S in Nutrition from the University of New Hampshire, her M.S. in Nutrition from the University of Washington. Her experience includes hospitals, outpatient clinics and teaching at Bastyr University.
Kate is an ultimate Frisbee athlete for Pitzer College where she is pursuing her undergraduate degree in international studies and psychology. She serves as a summer intern for POTENTRx as client services coordinator and will return next year after a study abroad program in Italy.
Tacey was a competitive swimmer at the University of Washington and completed her education with a B.A. in Textile Design. After graduating, Tacey worked in the applications marketing department at Microsoft before moving to Nashville where she served as operations manager for several companies. Recently returned to Seattle, Tacey joined POTENTRx as office manager.
McLean has been playing soccer all his life, named to the NWAACC All-Star team while attending North Idaho College, and as a starter for Seattle University where he graduated with a BA in Communications. Having served as an operations manager for 24-Hour Fitness and having just completed his MBA from Regis University in Finance and Accounting, McLean is the driving force behind our business development and communications.
