Trisha Steidl
Marathon/Ultra Marathon Runner
Bio
Trisha is in her fourth year as head coach of the Seattle University Men's and Women's Cross Country/Track & Field teams. As one of the few female coaches in the country to head up both a Men’s and Women’s Division I Cross Country/Track and Field program, she has spearheaded the growth of Seattle U's programs, as the teams have grown in both size and stature.
Balancing her head coaching demands with her rigorous running schedule, Steidl believes that the key ingredients to an athlete's success at any level is a combination of hard work, science, nutrition and a positive attitude. Trisha lives in the Seattle area and you can often see her out doing training runs at the numerous parks within the city.
Steidl was also a competitive athlete in college, where she rowed for the University of Washington women's rowing team that won three NCAA Division I National Championships between 1995 and 1999; she also qualified for the 2000 US Olympic Trials in rowing.
Steidl's PR's include a 2:48:17 in the Marathon (Austin, TX), 1:21:53 in the Half Marathon, 36:22 10km (track) and a 17:40 5km. She missed qualifying for the 2004 US Olympic Marathon Trials by only 17 seconds.

What is your favorite thing about running?
Competing, meeting great people, exploring places I wouldn't otherwise get to explore, the strong, confident feeling I get when I'm super fit.
How long have you been running?
I started in the fall of 2000.
What advice would you give future runners?
Be open to many different training ideas, learn from others, learn from your mistakes (and don't repeat them). Most important is that a mileage base will do more for you than almost anything else, but you must build it patiently and with a long-term future plan rather than a get-fit-quick plan. The latter doesn't work.
What is your most memorable experience with running?
There are so many great experiences! The most memorable is the time I spent in Kenya training with my Kenyan friends at a training camp in Kaptagat in December 2006. My husband, Uli, and I were there for 4 1/2 weeks. It was a tremendous experience both from a running perspective and a "life" perspective. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there and the wonderful, life-long friends I made.
What is the hardest thing about running?
Regaining your fitness and dealing with injuries. Both can be extremely frustrating. Keeping the most positive outlook you can will help you get through these times, but it's also important to remind yourself that it's OK to be frustrated.
What is something people don't know about you?
I am a huge music fan and play or have played many different musical instruments. I really want to learn how to sing. Most interesting fact is probably that I got married on the summit of Mt. Rainier.

What Trisha says about POTENTRx™
"POTENTRx™ has helped me refine my nutrition plan and determine my current fitness level and how that correlates to what I should be doing with my training. They've been super helpful so far! I've learned a lot! Next I'm looking forward to a 3-D biomechanical analysis that will help me determine where my body's strengths and weaknesses are so I can focus on what needs to be done by me as an individual and with the help of my doctors to help rid me of injury potential while I'm doing high mileage and/or high intensity training."
